This is a full-time management role with Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) and offers challenge, visibility and an opportunity to lead a highly collaborative Immigration team for the Medical Center. This role is based in beautiful Nashville, TN with a low cost of living (no State income tax), mild climate and a vibrant growing healthcare based local economy.
Leads the Immigration team advising international scholars to ensure successful integration into the workplace and local community, as well as maintaining legal status. Provides oversight of all visa and I9 functions and supports regulatory compliance reports.
KEY FUNCTIONS:
Oversees the international advising function and serve as a Responsible Officer (RO) for J-1 visa program.
Develops appropriate processes and procedures for prompt and accurate processing and monitoring of immigration and visa applications.
Ensures compliance with all aspects of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and other federal laws.
Liaison between our departments and external legal counsel.
Oversees plans for communications about international scholar issues, both internally and externally to the surrounding community.
Oversees the development of training regarding topics of interest to the international scholar populations and departments that provide services to or employ internationals.
Oversees the I9 verification for all new employees.
Strategize, design and implement a seamless immigration processes
Manage day to day immigration program, including employer sponsored nonimmigrant and immigrant sponsored cases, J Exchange Visitor Program, and I-9 E-Verify systems and processes.
Present business leaders and HR personnel with immigration regulation updates and information.
Facilitates both application and maintenance of lawful immigration status and employment authorization for employees and candidates.
Oversee and manage the coordination and processing by the Immigration Services Office of immigrant and non-immigrant visas (e.g., H1B, J-1, O-1, TN, E-3).
Continually analyze the immigration process to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
Design and execute creative solutions from building project plans to managing implementation of the new processes.
Partner with HR business partners to consult on complex immigration issues.
Liaise directly and partner with internal stakeholders (Talent Acquisition, Payroll, Hiring Managers, Legal and Finance) to provide guidance and support on immigration matters
Manage vendor relationships and performance. Ensure that our vendor provides high quality experience to our internal stakeholders
Promote internal education of the ISO office through presentations.
Explain immigration procedures to managers, employees, and candidates.
Conduct internal trainings for immigration processes.
Interact with external immigration counsel to facilitate employer sponsored immigration cases.
Oversee and manage budget for Immigration Services Office and J Exchange Visitor Program.
