The LifeFlight Ground Transport Lead Paramedic reports to the division manager and is responsible for daily operations of an assigned group or division within the ground transport program. The lead paramedic guides operational decisions, models effective decisions making, and ensures that policies and procedures are carried out in a safe and efficient manner, compliant with accreditation standards, protocol, and scope of practice requirements. Though the lead paramedic is typically assigned to an ambulance or clinical environment to provide treatment and transport of the sick and injured, they additionally will have incremental office time to accomplish administrative responsibilities as well as Paid Admin-On-Call (AOC) time with other leaders to support 24/7 operations.
LifeFlight Ground Transport Lead Paramedic is an integral part of a comprehensive community-based EMS system, designed to provide both high-acuity urgent interfacility transports to a higher-level care and scheduled non-urgent transport of patients from VUMC hospitals to post-acute care facilities or home. LifeFlight Ground EMS also responds to requests for mutual aid to support any community 911 or hospital system during times of natural disaster, mass casualty, or other extreme circumstances. Each LifeFlight Ground transport base is specifically aligned in communities requiring direct support of VUMC hospitals or partnering facilities; however, the entire program responds to requests across a multi-state region.
The Lead paramedic is responsible for assessment, treatment, and transport of all types of patients and conditions, and must be able to provide the level of care required to match the patient's needs (ALS, BLS or Specialty Care). The lead paramedic must initiate and or adapt patient care plans according to scope of practice requirements and LifeFlight approved treatment protocols and medical direction. The Lead paramedic is responsible for continuously reassessing and adjusting care as conditions change with the goal of always optimizing outcomes. The lead paramedic is expected to always deliver exceptional compassion, professionalism, patient care, and customer service. Effective communications and close collaboration with EMS team members, hospital staff, communicators, and other key stake holders is essential.
The lead paramedic will communicate with all medical personnel and facilities' staff in a respectful manner while obtaining instructions or feedback for transport and hand-off. The lead paramedic will communicate clearly and concisely via radio to relay critical and time sensitive patient information to receiving facilities. The lead paramedic will complete all required documentation appropriately and in a timely manner. The lead paramedic will always operate an emergency vehicle and equipment in a safe and effective manner. The lead paramedic will work closely with their teammates to check, restock, inventory and clean emergency vehicles and supplies as to stay ready for a timely response. The lead paramedic will stay in good standing with state and institutional requirements.
Full Time, hourly (Non-Exempt): each bi-weekly pay period three 12-hour shifts in one week followed by four 12-hour shifts the second week.
$5,000.00 signing bonus for Full-time Paramedics , first half paid after six months of employment and second half paid after 12 months of employment.
Provides operational guidance to the staff, makes operational decisions as necessary and follows up on additional administrative duties.
Proactively involved in departmental planning, growth, and development by participation in monthly Supervisor, Staff, and Safety meetings.
Recognizes and takes progression or corrective actions when needed to promote a high degree of professionalism and proficiency.
Provides clinical leadership for the team and assures that patient care is facilitated in accordance with the standards and practice and protocols of the department.
Provides advanced pre-hospital and inter-facility patient care from initial contact until care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility.
Maintains thorough patient care documentation of assessment and intervention throughout the entire transport and will practice within the scope of practice as defined by the state of Tennessee and programs protocols.

The Ground Medical team is currently comprised of more than 250 staff members spread across multiple divisions (ALS/BLS Ground Transport, Critical Care Ground Transport, Event Medicine, Emergency Communications and Transport Coordination).
