Reporting jointly to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Senior Vice President for Student Life & Engagement this position will oversee the health and wellness services to faculty, staff, and students at Michigan State University. MSU is committed to providing a healthy campus climate for the overall wellness of each Spartan, and this role will be critical to guiding that work.
This full time, executive level position will be responsible for the following major responsibilities:
Providing strategic vision and leadership of a comprehensive health and wellness approach for MSU
Ensuring high quality health and wellness programming and resources for the diverse needs of faculty, staff, and students
Cultivating, maintaining, and overseeing relationships with community agency partners to ensure the provision of appropriate and relevant health and wellness services and coordination of community resources
Understanding and promoting trauma informed care and health equity
Maintaining confidential health records and reporting
Overseeing budget development and planning, managing fiscal documentation, and ensuring record retention
Working closely with and getting consultation from the University Physician as appropriate
Serving on the campus Behavioral Threat Assessment Team and coordinating responses, along with the University Physician, to crisis situations pertaining to health and wellness
Serving as a leader in identifying and addressing health & wellness needs across the University and maintaining awareness of best practices with peer institutions
Conducting ongoing assessment to support continuous improvements in program and service quality, identify trends, and ensure satisfactory health outcomes for all populations
Participating in coalitions, advisory committees, and task forces that further health and wellness at MSU and the surrounding communities
Providing supervision to and inclusive coordination among health and wellness directors at MSU
Collaborates with leaders across the university to maximize coordination of services and the integration of health and wellness programming
Minimum Requirements
Master’s degree in a health-related field or equivalent experience
Have knowledge and experience with healthcare systems and effective delivery of services
Expertise in a health and wellbeing field, preferably in a university setting
Demonstrated ability to lead, coordinate, and supervise the work of a diverse group of colleagues
Demonstrated ability to understand the unique needs and concerns of a diverse campus population including undergraduate students, graduate students, staff, and faculty
Demonstrated knowledge of health care financing and business practices and the ability to successfully managing a complex budget including the acquisition and implementation of external grant funding
Evidence of strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated commitment to advancing equity, inclusiveness, and cultural richness
Knowledge of ethical best practices in health care and the ability to responsibly handle confidential/sensitive information guided by professional ethical standards
Preferred Qualifications
Terminal degree in health-related field
10+ years’ experience in higher education health and wellbeing administration
Demonstrated knowledge of national issues, trends, and best practices impacting health, wellbeing, and retention of students, faculty, and staff
Experience building new and emerging entities or assisting sets of entities in working together toward a common mission
Demonstrated success in planning, assessment, and communication and the ability to use data in complex decision-making
Demonstrated experience implementing equity and inclusion-based health and wellbeing strategies
