The Vice President of Quality will serve as the leader of all areas of organizational clinical quality and patient safety for UPMC Hamot, and for the UPMC Northern Pod through matrixed accountability with the various site quality and patient safety leaders. The Northern Pod includes UPMC Chautauqua, located in Jamestown, NY; UPMC Horizon (two campuses), in Mercer County, PA; UPMC Jameson, in New Castle, PA; UPMC Kane, in Kane, PA; and UPMC Northwest Hospitals, in Seneca, PA.
The Vice President of Quality will serve as the leader of all areas of organizational clinical quality and patient safety for UPMC Hamot, and for the UPMC Northern Pod through matrixed accountability with the various site quality and patient safety leaders. The VP will work collaboratively with senior management and the UPMC Hamot Quality Board in evaluating, planning, and implementing programs and systems which integrate care delivery at the highest quality levels. In this newly created role, the VP will be responsible for leading the development of systems that facilitate clinical integration of services to promote quality outcomes. It will formulate, communicate, and implement a comprehensive strategic vision for organizational quality, safety, and performance improvement. It will be responsible for establishing standards of performance and making recommendations to ensure service delivery is provided in accordance with these standards. The VP will provide oversight to ensure that all incidents and serious events are reported to the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority as identified in the legislation.
Qualifications and Experience:
Master’s Degree in Healthcare/related field OR Medical Degree (MD or DO) required; MD/DO or RN licensure is preferred.
Background as a licensed caregiver (RN or MD) preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience with at least 5 years in organizational clinical quality improvement and patient safety.
Certified professional in healthcare quality (CPHQ) and/or LEAN Six Sigma preferred.
Expert knowledge in the use of outcomes management techniques and resource management.
Knowledge of various aspects of quality and process improvement through IHC, IHI, Lean Systems management and other techniques. Knowledge of queuing theory and capacity management systems.
Thorough understanding of data analytics principles and descriptive statistics. The ability to partner with clinical and administrative leadership in utilizing systems and processes to integrate quality, cost, and resource utilization management principles.
Strong management and organizational skills. Track record of establishing collaborative relationships with physicians, clinical and administrative leadership, vendors, external agencies, and internal customers at every organizational level.
