The Office for Research’s core mission is to advance Rutgers’s preeminence in research. The Office for Research (OFR or Research) provides essential services university-wide that support faculty research and scholarship. The OFR teams support identifying sponsored award funding opportunities, submission of grant proposals, post-award financial management, negotiation of contracts, research regulatory affairs, intellectual property and commercialization activities, core services, and animal care provided by the Comparative Medicine Resources organization.
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an IRB Operations Manager for the Office for Research. As part of the Office for Research, the IRB Operations Manager assumes a critical role in the research enterprise at Rutgers University.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Ensures that all human subject research conducted under its auspices are carried out in such a manner that the rights and welfare of participants in research studies are protected and that Rutgers University complies with institutional, state and local, and federal regulations.
Reports to and works with the HRPP Leadership, overseeing the daily operations of the RU Institutional Review Board (IRB) office and serving as a liaison between the board and the research team.
Supervises 8-10 IRB Administrators and Coordinators assigned to provide administrative and regulatory support to the IRB.
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with several days per week remote work. This position is not eligible for full remote work.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree.
A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in quality assurance, IRB operations, sIRB/Reliance processes, or quality assurance processes in research.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Extensive knowledge of and proven experience with implementing federal and industry regulations that govern human subject research protections. Equivalent experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
Must have a current and working knowledge of federal, state and local regulations and institutional policy and procedures to ensure the RU IRBs and HSPP are in compliance with applicable mandates.
Requires excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), strong problem solving and decision-making skills and the ability to make decisions independently. Ability to take initiative and simultaneously manage multiple projects with minimal supervision. Highly organized and able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
