Position Summary: The WIC Certifier/CPA (Competent Professional Authority) is responsible for determining WIC eligibility, scheduling potential participants and enrolling when qualified. The CPA prescribes appropriate food packages for clients, provides basic nutrition education in individual or group format, and issues WIC cards following the separation of duties policy. Accurate and complete maintenance of all client records using the WIC Cascades Windows-based computer program and informing participants about the program, how to utilize the WIC card and how to purchase WIC foods is required. External contacts include patients, families, physicians and outside organizations and agencies. This position may work in any clinic location operated by MHS WIC Services.
Minimum Requirements: Washington WIC experience preferred Bilingual language skills preferred, Spanish desirable Previous experience working with disadvantaged populations desirable Required to obtain a Medical Assistant-Registered license upon reopening of WIC Clinics (post Covid)
Education/Licenses/Certifications: The following health professionals are qualified to be a CPA without having to complete paraprofessional competencies: Registered dietitian, physicians assistant, Registered Nurse, or ARNP Nutritionist with Masters degree in Nutrition or Public Health from an accredited school Person with B.S. or B.A. in Nutrition or in Home Economics with a nutrition emphasis Persons not meeting the above professional qualifications shall be recognized as Paraprofessional CPAs by meeting all of the following requirements: High school diploma or GED Completing training on WIC certification and nutrition principles and education within 6 months of hire. Completing the Minimum Paraprofessional Competencies for Washington WIC within 12 months of hire. Completing monthly in-services on nutrition related topics-ongoing following hire date.
