This position serves as a primary resource to sponsors of Catholic health care as they guide their sponsored works, transition to new forms of sponsorship, and come together as a sponsor community.  Responsibilities include the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs, services, and products designed to support sponsor groups and bishops; working in cooperation with other service areas within CHA; and to provide research, education and formation for evolving forms of sponsorship and governance. Travel is required (approximately 35%).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Lead the emergence of the sponsor community in collective identity
• Research and develop resources relating to theology and canonical aspects of sponsorship with a special emphasis on lay involvement and formation
• Develop and provide education and formation for sponsor boards, governance boards, corporate members, bishops, CEOs, and their ministries
• Provide consultation and referrals to sponsors and their organizations
• Plan regular meetings with representative members and sponsoring entities
• Sustain relationships with appropriate Dicasteries in Rome
• Oversee the Sponsorship Institute
• Oversee the Sponsorship Formation Program for Catholic Health Care
• Coordination of the Ministerial Juridic Person Collaborative
• Contribute to programming for other areas of service within CHA as collaborator and presenter.
• Oversee ongoing development of resources such as Sponsor Competencies
• Serve as member and staff coordinator for CHA Sponsor/Canon Law Committee
• Contribute regularly to Health Progress
• Produce or solicit scholarship on specific aspects of sponsorship
• Monitor, research and assess atypical sponsorship arrangements such as diocesan oversight of investor-owned hospitals that retain Catholic identity
• Participate in CHA strategic planning process, prepare board reports and attend board meetings as required
• Support CHA's annual Assembly as necessary and as requested, including working on site during the program

Experience:  3+ years’ experience in governance of Catholic ministry and 3+ years’ experience working in canonical sponsorship.  Experience and ability to understand and work collaboratively with church leaders.  Experience in non-profit, corporate matters.  Demonstrated expertise in fostering a strong sense of Catholic identity and as it applies to ministry.  Understanding of Catholic theology and canon law as it applies to Catholic health ministry. Experience with Catholic health care systems and with the Catholic Health Association.  Demonstrated expertise in effective communications and presentations. Proven leadership experience in management or supervision. 

Skills, Knowledge, and Ability:  Superior knowledge of ecclesiological aspects of the ministry of Catholic health care including juridic persons, the role of bishops and their national conference, and relations with the Holy See.  Working knowledge of sponsorship issues in Catholic health care.  Strong communication and dialogical skills, particularly in meetings with CHA members and with members of church hierarchy. Ability to work with the executive leadership of health care, with members of juridic persons, with bishops and their key advisors, and with boards of health care organizations (Catholic or otherwise).  Practicing Catholic with demonstrated understanding of church structures, practices (rituals and traditions), moral and social teaching.   Knowledge of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services. Intermediate Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook skills.
