Job Summary:
JOB SUMMARY This is a leadership position for the Mama Lere Hearing School in the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences. The person in this position is responsible for setting the vision and overseeing the day-to-day operations for the School. These responsibilities include, among others, developing goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; hiring, supervising, developing staff, and performing personnel administrative functions; and coordinating and evaluating the activities; preparing operating and capital expenditure budgets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor documentation completed by the school personnel to be consistent with medical center and department policies;
Ensure educational services are provided in a manner consistent with compliance requirements, VUMC policies, TN Department of Education standards, and the department's financial goals;
Ensure that developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities are implemented according to the child's IFSP/IEP, NAEYC guidelines, TN Department of Education standards, Options Standards, and Center policy;
Oversee and assist with educational assessments using appropriate testing methods and equipment for the student type, diagnosis, and admissions requirements to the school;
Formulate IEP/IFSP goals to address deficits, student/family areas of concern, and other concerns by members of the student educational team;
Maintain a clean, safe, orderly school environment that contributes to the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive growth of children (per NAEYC, JACHO, OSHA, Risk Management, and Center policies);
Oversee, participate in, and contribute to staff meetings, parent meetings/conferences, IFSP/IEPs, and opportunities for professional development;
Create an organizational culture (both within and across departments) that provides a safe, satisfying, and enriching environment for employees and provides a qualified, competent staff to meet patient needs;
Provide leadership to promulgate the mission and the values of the institution to the department;
Model behavior consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the enterprise through leading, coordinating projects, innovation, initiating improvement, and developing new programs;
Demonstrate a leadership style that is facilitative and collaborative;
Communicate within and across departments to maximize effectiveness, efficiency, and information sharing;
Ensure all Human Resource and VUMC policies and procedures are followed according to standards
Define the qualifications and performance expectations for all staff positions through the Performance Development system, including department-specific job descriptions, and measurable performance standards;
Create an environment that encourages and supports self-development and learning for all staff through regular feedback, by assuring the development of staff through orientation, training programs, work experiences and assessing competencies by meeting the performance expectations stated in his or her job description in a timely manner (normally annually);
Identify, establish, and evaluate quality assurance standards, programs, and procedures within the School
Preferred Position Qualifications:
Masters degree in Education of the Deaf
Eligible for the TN state teaching license and an endorsement in deaf education
Five years of teaching experience and experience in administration desired
